Sq 712 Changes Hands

posted Jun 10, 2018, 9:11 PM by Group 1   [ updated Jun 10, 2018, 9:13 PM ]

“Repeat after me. ‘I, state your name,”

“I, Eric Klemm,”

These words sound familiar to anyone who has heard the CAP change of command ceremony. 1st Lt Eric Klemm took command as his Seniors and Cadets watched a heartfelt change of command on 4 June. On 4 June, Squadron 712 wished Lt Col Michael S. Lazaroff, JD, well as he relinquished his command, due to being promoted to the Assistant Wing Director of Communications. At the time, MSgt Eric Klemm was asked to take the reigns of leadership, and he accepted the challenge.

Lt Col Lazaroff served as Sq 712’s Commander for 18 months. In this time, the squadron rebuilt its communications center and radio station, crowned the 2016 PAWG Group 1 SM of the Year, and the 2017 PAWG Cadet of the Year, C/Lt Col Ceara Berry, who is now studying at the United States Air Force Academy with Pennsylvania’s sole Congressional appointment. In addition, Lt Col Lazaroff produced three Captains and numerous Second and First Lieutenants and saw exceptionally high rates of Cadet promotions. In addition, Lazaroff was bestowed with two Achievement Medals and a National Commander’s Commendation while he was the Commander, and was also awarded a Wing Commander’s Commendation for a successful stint as the Commander. He has attained all five levels of the SM PD program. Lazaroff served for twenty years in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart for his service.

1st Lt Eric Klemm is a veteran of the United States Army, having spent 23 years as a combat medic and attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Upon joining Sq 712, MSgt Klemm ws appointed as the Sq 712 NCO. Klemm stepped up as the Commander graciously after also serving as a Cadet Activities Officer in Sq 712. In this role, Lt Klemm served as the Emergency Services guru and mentor for the physical fitness programs. He is working toward the Technician rating on the Emergency Services and Cadet Programs specialty tracks. Lt Klemm holds the Red Service Award and an Achievement Medal for his outstanding work as the Sq 712 Supply Officer.

The change of command was an enormous night for the Klemm family, as C/CMSgt Logan Klemm, his son, held the guidon for the ceremony. C/Amn Hannah Klemm was also promoted to C/A1C. When it came time to promote 2d Lt Klemm to 1st Lt, his wife and Michelle Klemm, each changed out his shoulder loops.

C/Capt Andrew Myers, the Cadet Commander, gave a speech that left no dry eyes reflecting on his time working with Lt Col Lazaroff. He expressed deep gratitude for Lt Col Lazaroff for his mentorship, officership, and availability. He called Lt Col Lazaroff a friend in his speech. C/Capt Myers expressed, on behalf of the Cadets, his best wishes to Lt Klemm as he begins his new role.

The ceremony was presided by Maj Earl Gardner, the PAWG Group 1 Commander. Everybody enjoyed cake after the ceremony.

Group 1 Plans STEM Trip, Requests for Funding

posted Oct 29, 2017, 5:10 PM by Group 1   [ updated Oct 29, 2017, 5:11 PM ]

GROUP 1 HQ: We are excited to announce a new fundraising opportunity we've put together to help raise funds for our planned trip to Washington DC for the STEM expo in April.

We took this trip in 2015 and it was a a great success. The cadets and seniors all enjoyed the trip and got to experience a wide range of activities in the STEM fields. This is the largest expo of its kind in the country!

Details and registration for the trip will be forthcoming. The expo itself will be April 7 & 8 and we are hoping to have a lot of participants. Last year we were able to do a two-day trip with overnight accommodations for only $80.00 per cadet. This year we are hoping to take Cadets from all over Group 1 and our goal is to get the trip FULLY FUNDED!

Our GoFundMe goal is $3000! The only way we can reach this is if you share, share, share our site. Share on your Facebook Page, share on a Twitter feed, share by e-mail to friends and family, and ask them to share too! You can also print the poster that is attached and post it up in the community. We want to get the word out. Please help us reach our goal!

The GoFundMe link is here.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you all for your support!
